Christmas Cookies: Edible Pinecones

These cookies are pretty darling. I was looking for a kind of edible craft to do with X, and these fit the bill perfectly. They are easy to assemble and are bake-free, so X got to be by my side the whole time, helping me out, but mostly just sneaking bites of the cereal.

They also look a lot prettier then I was able to show – at the right angle, they do look like pinecones!

Yeah, I don’t think that really helped either. But trust me they are sweet, and X is loving eating them as well. He takes them all apart as quickly as I can put them together. He’s been following me around all day asking “encore cocotte?” (another pinecone). I hope he doesn’t try to eat a real one after this. The recipe is super simple. I found it originally on Homemade Charlotte.

Edible Pinecones

Pretzel sticks

Chocolate cereal flakes that look like pinecones (I used Choco Chips, they worked great)

1/4 cup Nutella

1/2 cup peanut butter

3 tbsp butter, softened

1 cup icing sugar

Cream together Nutella, peanut butter, butter and sugar together. To assemble, mold the sugar mixture around the pretzel stick and place firmly on the plate. Then place the cereal flakes in place, starting from the bottom up. Sprinkle a little extra icing sugar for a snowy effect. And then keep out of reach of all toddlers! Also, dinosaurs.
